Yearning: a series about nature

Growing up in nature played a huge role in my life.  The freedom that came with wandering in the woods, splashing at water’s edge and feeling the earth beneath me gave me the idea for the images in my current series, entitled “Yearning”, which have become indelible, nostalgic and frequently haunt me.  After leaving the wooded and mountainous area of northeast Pennsylvania where I grew up,  I was left with a certain longing for home and for childhood.  The use and play of color and negative space, the exploration of materials and textures and the use of images which invoke a sort of stillness and quiet reflection all play an important role in this body of work.

This series is about longing.  It is about memories, comfort, solitude and home.  It combines the past and the present using elements of nature, shelter and moments within the space of fleeting time.  It is about stories with the innate sense of “I have been here before.”  Stories that perhaps were always a part of me.
